  • St. Patrick’s Day Activity

Saint Patrick’s Day celebrated on the 17th of March calls for St. Patrick Day activity. It commemorates St. Patrick, the benefactor saint of Ireland. The people of the Republic of Ireland, the foreign terrain of Montserrat and Newfoundland together with Labrador of Canada and some parts of U.S.A celebrate this day to its full glory. It is an Irish festival as 17th March is a national holiday there. The day is rejoiced by way of wearing green, consuming Irish food and imbibing Irish drink and it goes without saying, attending parades. Let’s explore what it takes to make crafts as regards St. Patrick Day activity.

The ideas for St. Patrick Day activity are simple and easy to implement. They require easily available home materials like egg cartons, cardboard, paper, boxes, string, crayons, paint, glue, etc. One of the many activities is the simple project of the Blarney Stone craft.

Blarney Stone is a well-known stone in southwestern Ireland. It goes like this, that if you plant a kiss on the Blarney Stone you will derive the gift of articulacy. Now all you need to do is wash the rock and paint it green. To add that shimmering effect use glitter, sequins, beads, plastic jewels, googly eyes, bits of yarn, or other similar stuff. Bring in some minutiae using markers.

Your project can get as interesting as a potato face. Yes, an adorable potato head can be made out of just a brown paper grocery bag and construction paper. Give a potato shape to the grocery bag or construction paper and keep it large. The eyes portions are cut out and the other features viz. a nose, a mouth, hair, a bowtie are affixed on it with the help of glue.

You can also make a rainbow Jello for St. Patrick’s Day. You will have to begin with preparing red Jello as per the instructions and pour some in a transparent plastic glass. Once the red Jello sets in, go in with the different colors one after the other, your rainbow Jello is ready.

Handprint rainbow is one such activity that you can’t miss. Here, the handprints of many children constitute a beautiful rainbow. It would be an ideal thing for classroom beautification or bulletin board. Thing you need to do is take different colored construction papers and trace the hands of the respective children. The handprints are then cut out and pasted on a paper that is in the shape of a rainbow. In this way, your handprint rainbow is ready. And, beyond that, you can also look forward to the making of the tiny leprechaun hat for St. Patrick’s Day.

St. Patrick Day activity would be more exciting if you follow the above tips.

  • Cooking for Kids

Cooking for kids can be very interesting; however, it can be equally challenging. It is true that children mostly hate healthy foods, which mainly involve too much of fruits and vegetables. The challenge lies not only in preparing healthy and nutritious food items but also in presenting the dishes in such a way that the kids are unable to resist the temptation.

You can indeed resort to some crafty ways of cooking for kids, which will allow you to have lots of vegetables and fruits, without letting the children have the slightest hint of their presence in the dishes. For example, home made pizzas have high nutritional values. Different kinds of vegetables can be used as toppings on the pizzas.

Cooking For Kids – Shapes Of Foods

Shapes stir the interest of many kids. Instead of giving the prepared foods in bowls or plates, create various shapes and see the difference it can create. Take any fruit or vegetable and cut them into various shapes to add to the appeal. Suppose you cut a slice of an apple and shape it into a ladybug. Shape Peanut butter in to glue form and then you can spread raisins in the dots to make the spots.

Kids always love smoothies or milkshakes and therefore let them choose the fruit that sound good to them. You can prepare a foamy and yummy juice and to spice up the look, add vegetable bits, without spoiling the juicy taste. This can be a very tricky way of cooking for kids and letting them have vegetables.

Cooking For Kids – A Few Recipes

    • Recipe For Chick Sticks

Ingredients – finely chopped two hard-boiled eggs, cooked chicken (chopped), salt and ground pepper; you will also need a mixture of white breadcrumbs and finely chopped parsley.

Cooking Procedures – Mix the ingredients and then with floured hands roll them into balls. Then, dab the balls in the parsley and breadcrumbs mixture and serve them on cocktail sticks.

    • Recipe For Meaty Pizza

Ingredients – chopped onion (1 piece), chopped streaky bacon (2), minced beef (1 oz.), grated cheese (4 oz.), chopped mixed pepper and white bread mix (10 oz.).

Cooking procedures – Pre-heat the oven to 400F. Make the bread mix and make the rolls. Fry the minced beef, bacon and onion for 15 minutes and then mix it in the tomato puree and chopped peppers. Spread the mix on some base and spread toppings of cheese and peppers on it. At last, bake it on the oven for 20 minutes.

Let The Kids Participate And Have Fun

When cooking for kids, involve them in your endeavor of creating assorted culinary delights. Welcome your kids to the kitchen. Ask them about their choices, as they are definitely pleased when their whims are met. While cooking for kids, you can even assign them some simple tasks. They will enjoy the experience completely. Moreover, they will definitely like to taste the dishes they have been involved with.

  • Crafts For Kids

Crafts for kids are essential because innocent minds are restless and are always up looking for something to learn, play with, or create. (Also, the mischievous pranks of kids looking for amusement can turn the entire house up side down!) Therefore, they need to be kept engaged. Their growing brains must find something creative to accomplish. Thus, they can be assigned activities like handcrafts where they can explore their childhood ideas and create wonders.

Kids Craft Idea: A Bird Bath

There are innumerable varieties of crafts for the kids to play with. Children can be taught to make clay bird baths, for instance. The ingredients which the child requires to make this item include 16 inch or larger terracotta clay pot, 16 inch or larger terracotta clay saucer, paint, paintbrushes, and a clear acrylic sealer spray.

The process of making the clay bird bath is indeed simple. First, teach your child how to wipe down the terra cotta pot and saucer with a damp cloth. Then you should allow it to dry completely. However, when it comes to decoration, choices are indeed endless. Help your child get hold of a neat stencil and paint the item. He or she can also try and sponge-paint the birdbath. The final secret is to seal it with a clear acrylic sealer spray. Also, remember to store the clay bird bath properly when it is not being used (if you live in a colder climate, taking it inside in the winter is a good idea).

Kids Craft Idea: Tin Can Luminary

How can your child recreate gorgeous luminaries by making use of tin cans? What materials does your child need? The ingredients include tin can, paper, duct tape, nail and hammer. Before using the can, your child should clean it properly and remove the label. After the can is filled with water, it should be kept within the refrigerator to turn the water into ice. The next step would be to give the luminary a form by tapping holes on the sides of the can using a hammer and a nail (this should be done very carefully and with adult supervision).

Why does the child need to freeze the water? The water is frozen so as to make sure that the can retains its shape while it is being nailed and hammered. The child must think of a design, which would, best suit the tin can.

First, your child should tape the design around the can. Then it is time for him to make use of the hammer and nail to tap holes into the can and ice. He should go with the line of the design and leave spaces in-between the holes. After framing the design, the child should remove the pattern and let the ice melt. The next step should be to make the can dry. Just place the candle within the can and illuminate it. Stand aside and wach how the magic works.

This is definitely not the end of the list. During summer, winter or any other vacation children while sitting in the cozy atmosphere of their room can give shape to their ideas in form of several hand craft varieties. There are many other kids craft ideas like straw sculptures, toothpick art, bubble painting, finger painting, sock puppets, sand paintings, and pasta or legume mosaics. There is a whole world waiting to be explored with kids craft ideas.

  • Forensic Science Types

With thugs and criminals getting smarter by the day, it is only evident that the various Forensic Science types would also re-invent themselves. Forensics hold the key to solving criminal investigations and in many a complex investigation, it may be even that all the braches of Forensic science are called into action.

    Forensic dentistry
Forensic dentistry deals with the examination of dental evidence either to determine the identity of the victim or the offender. The teeth is one of the sturdiest components in the human body. And with only a charred corpse at his disposal, the Forensic dentist has to look to the dental remains and compare it to known dental records of the supposed victim to make a positive match. Forensic dentistry also comes into play when you have to deal with bite mark evidence to nab a crook.

    Forensic toxicology
With drug abuse on a steady rise and the poisons getting harder and harder to detect, it is left to Forensic toxicology to provide the answers. And Forensic toxicology is not just about determining the type of poison used, that is, whether it was arsenic or lead that did the job. This branch of Forensic science is also widely used in drunken driving and substance abuse cases.

    Forensic psychology
These days it has almost become routine to pull the trigger or drive the knife in and switch over to the “insanity plea” mode instantly. So it is left to Forensic psychology to determine the authenticity of the claims. In fact, this branch of Forensic science finds usage in various legal matters like child custody disputes, child abuse, determining competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility and advising judges in matters relating to sentencing. Psychological profiling of the offender to pinpoint possible suspects has also become a common forensic practice.

    Forensic entomology
Killers have this uncanny ability to scoop up the remotest of locations to dump their victims, which remain undiscovered for days on end. Most often it is left to Forensic entomology to determine the exact time of death based on the activities of flesh-feeding maggots and insects on the carcass.

    Forensic accounting
Forensic accounting is gaining precedence with more and more crimes relating to money matters being committed. This field of Forensic science deals with frauds concerning accounts and inventories, estimating financial damages and evaluating businesses. Forensic accounting nowadays also involves helping in investment analysis and research and also acting as advisors to audit committees.

    Forensic engineering
Forensic engineering deals with the whys and wherefores behind faulty materials, products, structures or components. And this may not always be regarding criminal cases. Forensic engineering may be applied in civil cases also.

    Forensic document examination
Forensic document examination is mainly involved with ascertaining the authorship and authenticity of a particular document. This might involve the scrutiny of the handwriting or some other components of the document and comparing them to a series of known parameters.

Forensic science has come a long way since fingerprinting was first used in a criminal investigation. Since then forensic psychology, dentistry, engineering, entomology, toxicology and the various other forensic science types have evolved to make getting away with crime that much harder.

  • Weather Forecast

Can we think of life without our daily dose of weather forecast? Not really. This integral part of our daily lives can be defined as the scientific prediction of the atmospheric conditions for a particular place and time.

Humans have always tried to predict the weather. History says that in 650 BC, the Babylonians analyzed the weather from cloud patterns. In about 340 BC, Aristotle described weather patterns in Meteorologica. The Chinese were into weather forecast since 300 BC. Ancient methods involved examining the sky, the sunset, the clouds etc.

The invention of the telegraph in 1837 marked the beginning of modern methods. The science of meteorology, which greatly developed during the 20th century added more accuracy to the forecasts. Then arrived the concept of Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) in 1922. Only after the development of more advanced computers (around the 1970s), that NWP became applicable in weather predictions.

Today the method consists of the following steps:

    Data collection
This involves gathering information about atmospheric pressure, temperature, wind speed, wind direction, humidity, precipitation etc. The World Meteorological Organization regulates the entire process worldwide. Important components of this process are weather satellites that ensure more accuracy and global range.

    Data assimilation
This process involves the combined analysis of the information collected and a numerical model’s latest forecast for that same time span. The result is a meteorological analysis that includes a three dimensional depiction of the dispersal of temperature, moisture and wind.

    Numerical weather prediction (NWP)
NWP is computer forecasting of the atmosphere and involve supercomputers.

    Model output post processing
This step involves the fine-tuning of basic data before it is declared. This process may take into account statistical methods or comparing and concluding from various other numerical forecasts.

    Forecast presentation to end-user
This is the last step of the process. Here the conclusions are presented for application in various spheres. The major sectors where weather forecasts are vital are:

    • Public information: The media is today the main informer. The Internet too is a vast resource now.
    • Air traffic: Forecasts are vital to the daily safety and operations of the aviation industry.
    • Marine: Safety of water transport and commerce is also dependant on weather forecast about wind direction, speed, wave periodicity and heights, tides, and precipitation. The information is transmitted in codes to ship pilots via radio, for instance the MAFOR (Marine Forecast).
    • Utility sector: Electricity and gas service providers depend on weather changes to determine demand and supply. For instance, in severe cold there will be a greater demand of heaters, while in summers for air conditioning.
    • Private sector: Many companies are now analyzing consumer patterns with the help of weather forecast and hence influencing their profits and losses. A common instance is that of superstores, which vary their stocks based on consumer behavior in varying weather conditions.
    • Military purposes: Those on the warfront require pre-flight conditions, as well as forecasts for resource protection at military installations, naval traffic, air force operations. Coast guard weather forecast is also a part of this application.

The science of weather forecasting has come a long way since the days of the Babylonians. However, it remains a challenge still today to predict nature accurately to prevent property and life loss. Weather Forecast is an evolving science.
